PTSD Coach (app)

This is a free mobile app from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It includes information on trauma, coping skills, and tools to help guide recovery. Learn about PTSD coach at the V.A.'s website.

Getting Unstuck from PTSD: Using Cognitive Processing Therapy to Guide Your Recovery (book)

This is a self-help workbook that covers CPT for PTSD. It can be helpful on its own or as a compliment to trauma-focused therapy. Learn more about the book at Guilford Press.

The Racial Healing Handbook (book)

This book has practical strategies for healing from the impacts of racism, including trauma related to one's race or ethnicity. It is available from New Harbinger, along with free handouts.

The Queer and Transgender Resilience Workbook (book)

This is a guide to coping with and healing from negative messages about LGBTQ+ identities, including traumatic experiences related to gender and sexuality. It is available from New Harbinger.

Organizations and Websites

National Center for PTSD (NC-PTSD)

NC-PTSD (ptsd.va.gov/) has information on PTSD, self-assessments, and tools to find trauma-informed therapists. Many of their articles are available in both English and Spanish.

National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI's PTSD page (nami.org/types-of-conditions/posttraumatic-stress-disorder) has information on PTSD symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options (therapy, medication, and alternative treatments), including videos and brochures.​

CPT for PTSD

CPTforPTSD.com is the official website for Cognitive Processing Therapy. It contains resources for clients and therapists to learn more about CPT, including books, brochures, and videos.

Mental Health America (MHA): Racial Trauma

MHA (mhanational.org/resources/racial-trauma) has information on racial trauma, which is sometimes experienced by people of color in the U.S. It also includes ways to deal with racial trauma individually and through connecting with communities.

Sleep Health Foundation (SHF)

Many people who have experienced trauma also have sleep problems. SHF's website (sleephealthfoundation.org.au/sleep-disorders/cognitive-behavioural-therapy-for-insomnia-cbt-i) has information on CBT for Insomnia, which is an evidence-based therapy to improve sleep.​

Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

SAMHSA (samhsa.gov) has information on how to tell if someone has substance use problems and practical strategies for how to reduce substance use.

Human Rights Campaign: LGBTQ+ Resources (HRC)

HRC's has compiled a list of free crisis hotlines and helplines for LGBTQ+ people across the lifespan: hrc.org/resources/mental-health-resources-in-the-lgbtq-community

ComplexTrauma.org: Sacred Dissonance

This webpage (complextrauma.org/complex-trauma/sacred-dissonance-complex-trauma-and-spirituality) highlights connections between trauma and religion and spirituality. It also gives ways that some people use their religious or spiritual beliefs and practices to heal from trauma.​

Apex ABA Therapy: Autism and PTSD

This article (https://www.apexaba.com/blog/autism-and-ptsd) has information on how PTSD can look different among Autistic people and considerations for getting treatment and support.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

This hotline (thehotline.org) is available 24/7 to individuals who are seeking information or help related to domestic violence. They also maintain a directory of providers throughout the U.S.​​
