Individual Therapy
I work with individuals with a wide range of trauma histories, such as rape, sexual assault, childhood abuse, combat exposure, vehicle accidents, domestic violence, and identity-based trauma (e.g., racial trauma, hostility toward sexual orientation or gender identity). I also help clients address concerns that often accompany trauma, such as sleep difficulties, substance use, and relationship problems. I enjoy working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and identities. My goal is to help my clients experience lasting recovery and live their lives in a way that is meaningful to them.
My Therapy Style
I am active and collaborative in therapy. I deeply value my clients' knowledge of themselves, and I am committed to helping them bring their full selves into our sessions. I work with my clients to set attainable therapy goals, create a plan to reach those goals, regularly discuss their progress, and make any adjustments to therapy that are needed to help them get what they need from treatment.
Types of Therapy I Offer
The approach I take is flexible based on clients' needs and preferences. For those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), I most often use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I am a rostered CPT provider, meaning that I have undergone intensive training and consultation in this approach and am included on the treatment developers' list of trained providers. I also offer other types of therapy depending on clients' needs, such as interpersonal therapy and prolonged exposure.
How Long Does Therapy Take?
All of these approaches (CPT, interpersonal therapy, prolonged exposure) are structured, meaning that they require two main things: First, they require me to come to each session prepared to offer specific interventions to help clients consistently make progress. Second, they require that clients practice what they learn in therapy on a daily basis between sessions. When both of these conditions are met, CPT, interpersonal therapy, and prolonged exposure can help people recover quickly, typically within 14-18 sessions. I always work to help my clients feel prepared to end therapy and move forward with their lives when they feel ready to do so.
